What do you guys know about Creatine? I just bought a big tub and took my first serving. It tastes good but I realized if I take it the way the tub says, I only get a week out of it. It is 2 scoops per 12 oz. of water. It says theres about 10 servings in a tub and it costs $30.00
ANy one know if it works???

My ex used to use it. It does help in the bulking up process, but it also added a bit more "rage" to his personality. He used it like the tub said for the first month and then cut that in half for the next 2 months. There is some better supplements sold at GNC that have a similar effect minus the "mood swings" and the high cost. I will get the name of it for you and post it later, I can only remember what the can looks like and ot the name....OH, He also failed a piss test for a job because of it. Once he informed them what supplements he was taking, they re-tested him and he passed then. Something to remember and beware of as well...

And your point is???? Don't have one? Well then shut up and I'll give you one!
Creatine is a substance that allows you to continue exercising your muscles past the point where normal fatigue or exercise would force you to stop. Because you are able to keep using them past the point of exhaustion, you break your muscles down much more during a workout with creatine than without the supplement. After your workout, your body has more repair work that must be done than usual. Your body will repair the small tears you've created in your muscles by building additional muscle around the trauma site (this is a normal, muscle building activity that follows almost all exercise). The creatine workouts cause more tears/injury, so in turn your body does more repair work (larger, stronger muscles much more quickly than without the supplement). Creatine also aids in the repair jobs your body does (which is why they recommend taking it directly after working out).
It works. You will notice much faster gains than without it. Here's the catch: once you've begun supplementing your diet with creatine, your body no longer produces the small amount of creatine it normally (and naturally) produces when eating a well balanced diet. As soon as you stop taking the creatine, you will quickly notice a drop in strength and size. It will take your body a long time to begin producing it naturally again. Many users of creatine avoid this by ignoring the cycle directions (6 weeks on, 6 weeks off) that are generally provided on the container. Additionally, as Kat said, MANY users experience extra aggression and rage. Even the sweetest guys I've known have had this effect (to varying degrees). Lastly, creatine has been linked to liver (and possible kidney) damage. I would highly recommend speaking to a healthcare professional before getting very involved with it. Hope this helped.
OH-as a disclaimer-I am not a qualified health care provider. My knowledge is possibly riddled with misconceptions or falsities. Please take this into account when evaluating what I had to say but know that everything in there has been given to me by people I've trusted on the subject.
Nope. Creatine does NOT reduce your bodys natural ability to produce creatine. It has zero effect on your abilities to create it.
Creatine (which comes in phosphate, monohydrate and others) is a compound that replaced ADP-which is a short term energy supply for muscle contraction. Your natural output maximum is about 15 seconds of effort before it depleats itself. by having higher concentrations, you can stretch that time a bit (minimally) and/or replenish quicker.
The diareah effect is because creatine tends to hold water in the kidneys and muscles of the body. What this does is cause cramps and gives you the poops. By drinking more water, you can completely override this effect with no adverse reactions.
Europeans have been using creatine for over 20 years in burn patients to help them recover from surgery. This compound is completely safe, having been tested repeatedly over he past 15 years. Ive personally used it in many different forms, and different brands for over a decade with no results.
The one problem is dehydration, which can also be avoided by simply drinking more water.
The "rage" aspect people speak about is rubbish. There is absolutely NO hormonal effects from creatine. The only slightly related issue would be because of the increase ability to lift weight, which would would also trigger a slight increase in testosterone, the persons aggression level could be elevated-but i dont think to a degree of significance.
oh, and herring is a great natural source of creatine.
