its a hard call.

blind people cant drive, cook or enjoy place like this.

Deaf people cant enjoy music, (they can feel the rythem but they cant hear the sound) they cant hold conversations (sign lang. of course they can) and they cant hear cars  horns.

I would be deaf. it would be an easier disablity to deal with i think.

Duuuude, and if you go deaf, she can nag you all she wants and never worry about you havin a grudge. I could have fun with a deaf person.

I myself think that i would hate life if I was deaf. I looove music so much, and incorporate it into everything I do.

I can't believe those comments. Deaf people can hold conversations and they certainly can enjoy music.  In fact, many artists including Dave Matthews and Jimmy Buffett (among others)provide interpretation and other means of comprehension for the hearing impaired at their concerts.  There are devices which allow the hearing impaired to enjoy classical, jazz, or other instrumental music.  There are dance clubs where the acoustics are such that deaf people can enjoy dancing, too.  No, the hearing impaired cannot hear music in the same fashion as those of us who can hear, but their interpretation and level of enjoyment is no less than ours, only different.  Go spend a week at Gallaudet University, you'll have a different appreciation and understanding.

Anyway, off my soapbox and back on topic.....I'd choose to be deaf.

Definately deaf.

Being deaf you can have a "normal" life and not rely on someone else to help you with everyday life.

wow, tough decision......knowing someone who went blind and knowing all the obsticals he has had to conquer to re-become independent (with the help of a seeing eye dog/worker dog) I think I would have to chose deafness over blindness. Even though I truly love music, I would still get to enjoy it, just in other ways than I do now. And like Sparky said, you could lip read and still get a feel for the conversation by seeing their facial expressions.
