Deputy resigns after putting nephew in cell

 

 

(3/10/06 - KTRK/GALVESTON, TX) - A Galveston County sheriff's deputy has resigned after trying to teach his nephew a lesson in the county jail.

James Pruitt says he brought his 13-year-old nephew to the jail to show him a little tough love. When the teen misbehaved, Pruitt briefly locked his nephew in a cell with a capital murder suspect.

No one was hurt, but Pruitt is now under investigation for breaking department policy.

I can see where he was coming from, and that he really didnt think right before he did this. However, I can aslo see the SO needing to do something. IMHO, a suspenstion would have been approiate.  He is attempting to save his nephew and wake him up, however he just didnt think who he put him in there with.
