The 24 hour cop??

How many of you have the "cop" friend or co-worker that NEEDS to be a cop 24/7. He/she never stops thinking about police work, has every t-shirt about a cop ever made, has bumper stickers, license plates and never ever ever ever stops being an officer and being a person, like they were before they were hired.

OR, even worse, the friend that's not an officer but thinks he/she is and won't give up until they become an officer.

BOTH of these people drive me friggen mental..... does this bother anyone else???

I can't help with this one, I am not a cop and don't even know any that I would actually talk about that kind of thing with.

(I just happened to stumble across these forums and thought they were cool so I joined)

Hey pacman,

As a cop, you should know.  If you don't, take it from another cop.  That's why cops usually only have cop friends.  No one better understands a career in LE than other cops.  Take marriage, one of the highest divorce rates, because wifee pooh doesn't understand.  Guess what, I "married" another cop.  No explaination regarding work is necessary.

It's not like a regular job where at quitting time you can go home and smoke weed or snort a line of coke.  We are cops 24/7.  That doesn't mean going out getting into things while off duty.  Off duty is just that, but you don't ever stop being a cop.

I can't explain the actions of a wannabee or those that "advertise" that they are a cop ie license plate, bumper stickers, tee shirts etc.  The groupies also drive me nuts.

Hey, why don't you call up hemicop and have him over for a beer.

*starts waving the smoke away, scrapes everything off his coffee table into a box, wipes and sniffs his nose*

Yeah... we can't do that *cough*...

we had someone from our department who was trying to make their way into the K9 section. we allowed him to tag along with us during training, i even took him on a ride-along or two. little did he know we were evaluating him. soon enough he starts telling other departments he was K9 to go on ride alongs with them and even started to get in the way of their training. soon enough it all cought up with him, he's not part of our department partly becouse of that but mainly becouse he got in trouble out of state trying to be a cop 24/7

I have a lot of friends that are LE and I enjoy listening to them. I think it's interesting and it lets them "wind down" after a long day.... They have never been "pushy" or "ego" about it, they just enjoy their work and like to talk about it??? Granted, they can't tell me certain details or anything, but it is still interesting to me.

maybe Im wrong bu i think what pacman was talking about was ROBO COP. the one that NEVER ends his shift, quick to help out in a chase or what ever.  the ones that draw attention to themselves versus just going about the duties that they are doing.

We have one or two like that at my department.  It's ridiculous.  Maybe they'll learn...if not, they'll burn out quickly.
