Trying to get the hang of the digital camera thing other than the normal in house shots I need to take. I needed to take some landscape layout pics ...unfortunately all the pics taken outside were washed out really badly. Yet, when I got back inside I took some more pics and they were just fine.
I tried messing with the exposure settings with no luck. I am wondering if the digitals are sensitive to cold temperatures and that might cause the washed out, over exposed look of the outside pics.
Any suggestions?

I have checked all the light settings and they are fine. I know how to use the micro...as that is mostly what I need. BUT, the pics were outside and it was in the lower 30s. The view looked just fine but the pics were washed out on all the settings

Day or night? You can't shoot outside landscape in macro mode. You might set the setting to automatic. That is the one with the palm tree, moon, mountain, snow "figures" Try staggering the flash. I've used my camera in -10 and didn't have a problem. Not even with the chip.
When you say the view..is that thru the lcd screen or finder window? It might just be, the lens fogged up when you went outside. After the lens pops out, look and see that it isn't fogged up.
The asian woman, trust me WE KNOW how to use cameras, says: It's the macro- macro works inside but WILL NOT work outside. If you put it on automatic, you won't have any problems inside or outside.
