NOT EXACTLY WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR…
On Wednesday February 15, 2006, at approx 3:30 p.m., Kalamazoo Department of Public
Safety Community Policing Officer (CPO) Greg Magnan made a routine traffic stop at
the intersection of Elm/Ransom Streets.
During the traffic stop, CPO Magnan noticed that the female driver and the male
passenger were doing quite a bit of moving around. After doing routine checks, CPO
Magnan ended up arresting the passenger on an outstanding warrant. Upon doing further
investigation with the driver – who was extremely nervous to the point of shaking and
mumbling – CPO Magnan discovered close to two ounces of crack cocaine (approx.
street value of $4000).
Officers from the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team assisted with this investigation,
which revealed that upon being stopped by CPO Magnan the male asked the female to
hold his crack cocaine. She willingly did so, not thinking that she would get caught
"holding the bag."
The male passenger, a 20-year old Kalamazoo resident, was arrested on an outstanding
warrant, and a felony drug charge. The female driver, a 47-year old Kalamazoo resident,
was also arrested on a felony drug charge. Both were lodged at the Kalamazoo County
Jail pending arraignment.
Anyone wishing to report drug activity or other crime is encouraged to contact
Kalamazoo Public Safety at 337-8994, Silent Observer at 343-2100, or the Kalamazoo
Valley Enforcement Team at xxx-x880.
