Miami Ink

Anyone watch Miami Ink? I like the way the show portrays getting a tattoo and the way a good tattoo artist can take your ideas and make them into a quality tatt. I drew my own and took my drawing in with me. The guy I went to cleaned them up and shrunk them down to size for me, even added to them a bit to get what I really wanted to "say" into them.

I am working on another piece....still lookin for ideas though. The show has given me a few ideas of how to express my thoughts into the tatt. If you haven't seen the show and like tattoos, I highly recommend it!

Anyone here in Miami ever been there to their shop?

I have watched a few episodes, it's neat!  I mainly watch it for the artistic part, I'm way too chicken to get a tattoo!  Some of those tatoo's are beautiful though!

I liked A&E's Ink'd better while is lasted. But Miami Ink is good.

I like Ink'd because of all the freak shows and the odd celeb that walked in off the strip.

I never saw A&E's....I was shocked when I first saw Miami Ink advertised....tatts get such mixed reactions from people, I was surprised it took off as a show.

The website is pretty cool too. You get to see more of the work they've done.

Great show, it's almost as addicting as the tattoos themselves.

yup i saw it when i was in poughkeepsie very good show. the owner is actually the one who changed my life back to me. he is jewish and said God is not going to judge you  for what your body looks like but  on what you do. i took religion up about 4 yrs ago got serious took out my piercings hid my tattoo. and was believeing if i had them then i would be judged.  I also changed my hair to a solid color . I found myself to be stuck up and very judgemental of others  and that is not me . not at all. my hubby hated the person i was becomeing and so do i. now i have  put my hair back to me mode and  im getting my piercings again and  probably  another tattoo or 2. I dont care let them judge me. As i just got a phone call from the church asking me if id be willing to  take out my piercing and change my hair  or step down from my calling i said im gonna step dopwn from my calling . and i said why . oh well lol but yeah  they are awesome people and i thank god he said that and opened my eyes.

wow! I never looked at that side of it PCW.....I have always veiwed my tatts as a form of art and have felt that God granted us the ability to express beauty in art, so I never felt I would be judged by God for my tatts. I realize people do sometimes judge those that have them though? I just never put much merit in their judgement, I was more concerned with how God might view it over any person. But I understand what you're saying...... I'm glad you found pease with who you are, it's a good feeling isn't it!?

Technically, it’s not about art that “God” as a problem with. If you believe the bible is “the word of God”, and a guide, then it states that the whole idea of tattoo’s, body piercing, and the like are offensive to him. More like disrespectful. Basically it’s about “the body” which you are to honor. In that, by keeping it clean and not “dressing it up with worldly things of gold, silver, and what have not.”. That is where all the “judgment” (as you put it), comes from.  If anyone really wanted to know……

I was watching one show where a person said they were getting this tattoo to honor their grandfather. I laughed and said, isn’t that ironic! LOL

actually if you want to get technical  it says the body is a temple  hmm temples are decorated  .. and  for that  fact religion seemed to have started with Buddhism that was the established religion long b4 Christianity. if you look at all the Buddhist statues the ears are stretched  they believe the longer the stretching the longer the after life ect ect. but people misinterpret the bible all the time so who knows who is right but i can personally guarantee that i am not going to hell for having different color hair or piercings and for that fact in the religion i did take up the profit said  only  one set of earrings for the women  non for the men well um that's a little bit of hypocritical because we weren't born with them why allow one set at all? . I feel its a personal choice i look at mine as art i have it for me and no one else so why  should others feel the need to  say something. Thus my point is
that  they teach judge not for ye shall be judged but arent they judging me????????

oh and Kat it is great being me  I dont need to be what everyone else wants me to be if they really love me they will love me for me  and thats it my apperance doesnt change who i am inside and if they  really knew me they would know that

Iam going to jump in here.  Most of u know Iam Jewish.  I am not very religous but nonetheless my wife is. At least she wants to be.  I have a strong desire to get a tattoo, a memorial one at that of 9-11.  My wife told me years ago NO TATTOOS . After a few years of not bringing it up, she got to a point of If you find an ORTHODOX rabbi who say its ok, then ink away.  Hmmmm  good luck finding one.  So i did some research. Here is one article on a UJF website.  More text to follow.

Q: Is it true that you cannot be buried in a Jewish cemetery if you have a tattoo?

A: Judaism teaches us that our that guys belong, as do all parts of nature, to God. They are on loan to us and we are responsible for caring for them. Any sort of mutilation of the body is, therefore, prohibited. Tattooing is prohibited, as is scarring, and some forms of elective cosmetic surgery.
There are criminal offenses that are so heinous as to bar someone from being buried in the Jewish cemetery. Despite the persistence of a myth to the contrary, a tattoo is not one of those offenses. There is no prohibition against burying someone with a tattoo in the Jewish cemetery.
