02/15/06 - KTRK/HOUSTON) - An ATF K9 officer died after a very long fall Wednesday morning.
It happened while the dog was trying to secure the area where this weekend's All Star events are scheduled to take place. The four-year-old male black lab named Mikey was at work, helping sweep the George R. Brown Convention Center for the upcoming NBA All-Star events when he fell 30 feet and landed on the concrete.
Houston police officers helped put the dog in a patrol car and rushed him with a police escort to Gulf Coast Vet Clinic on the West Loop.
**Im truly sorry this dog went but I understand that they really did try tos ave him. It was reported somewhere, that he went after a bird, but its not in the story.
The dog's handler was trying to put him back into his kennel after a water break. The dog was standing at the top of a loading dock and saw a pigeon and chased after it. Thats when he fell.
