Car question

I am looking for a dependable used car till i get the big buckoo bucks and all that happy shit. An ex of mine has a 96 Chrysler Sebring JXI Convertible. 110,000 miles, V6 , Leather Interior, New tires all around. He is only asking from me 2,000$. I am getting a deal cause he is London's Dad. Can someone please tell me what to look at when I go to look at this car? I trust him but I just want to look myself, but have no clue what to look for.

First, check the transmission--has it been removed or replaced?

Second, check to see if the engine has had any major work done to it

Obviously, check all fluids, transmission fluid is supposed to be red.

You can also check with the dealership where it would have had service, talk to the service manager, see if they have any info on the car.

More questions please ask--I am ASE certified

Make sure you check the muffler belt and blinker fluid.

Check for leaks in the convertible top, they are expensive as hell to replace!

Make sure you check the water:air ratio in the tires, if its off just a little it can screw up with your handling like no other.

http://www.carfax.com      -  I've used them before, they give a complete title history , recalls and if the vehicle had any major insurance claims.

Below is from Kelly Blue Book  http://www.kbb.com

The only thing that cathces my eye is the mileage.  It should only have about 88K NOT 110!

As someone suggested check with the dealer, or see if he has reciepts for oil changes & other preventive mtc.   See if you can find out what PM is reccomended.  Timing Chain ready to go?  VERY pricey replacement.

All chrysler 6 and 4 cylinder engines have timing belts. Reccomended change interval is between 60,000 and 80,000 miles. I reccomend change the belt at 60,000 miles.

The V-6 engine that that one has is called an interferrence engine design. That means DO NOT LET THE TIMING BELT BREAK!! Or the pistons WILL hit the heads!!
