Police chase in SW Houston ends in horrific wreck

(1/27/06 - KTRK/HOUSTON) - A police chase in southwest Houston ended with a horrific crash, injuring a boy on his way to school.

It all started shortly before 8:30am when police did a random check on an SUV's license plates and it came back as stolen. Two people jumped out of the moving SUV and ran off. A third suspect got out midway through the chase.

Soon after, the female driving the stolen vehicle slammed into a red Oldsmobile on Beechnut and Cook.

"I said, 'Look, it's going to hit the red car,'" said eyewitness Victor Onuobia. "It hit the red car so hard that the red car spun around three to four times."

The red car was driven by a woman taking her son to school. Police say the boy, age 12 or 13, was ejected from the car and was taken by Life Flight to the hospital.

"It happened in about five minutes or less, less than two miles from the original location from here, so things unfolded fairly quick," said Captain Dwayne Ready with the Houston Police Department.

The woman driving the SUV was arrested at the scene. Police say two other suspects were taken into custody. Police are still searching for the fourth suspect who bailed out of SUV earlier in the chase.

There's no word on the conditions of the boy or his mother at this time.
**note in todays paper it states he is still on life support.

this **** has got to stop. Houston is a huge city and has alot of BGs. HPD i think MUST rethink this crap about the chases.
