Telemonitoring in connection with a diabetes team reduces stress in diabetes

09.14.2016 An automated, interactive voice-assisted telemonitoring program improves the self-treatment of patients with diabetes and can degrade even stress. This shows a study from the United States.

Deficits in motivation for treatment and lack of self-control of blood sugar and blood pressure are not only associated with psychological stress, but also with an increased risk of diabetic sequelae. In a study from Ann Arbor (MI) has been tested, what benefits this can provide mobile health services. For this, a voice-assisted interactive telemonitoring program was used. The included in the study 301 patients with diabetes received while in weekly phone calls previously recorded and customized for them information and recommendations that were automatically sent when a problem occurs to the attending physician.

Results: 84% of patients completed the weekly phone calls over the entire duration of the study of 3-6 months, so that finally existed about 5682 weeks reports for evaluation. 39% took part together with a carer. Through the program, a highly significant improvement of medication adherence, medical conditions, mental function, depressive symptoms and diabetes drawee stress was achieved. Blood glucose self-monitoring and control of the feet were positively affected and the number of states that are too high or even too low measured blood glucose levels reduced.
