I am kind of going on a limb here, but hear me out. What about New Orleans and the gulf coast region??? You can see first hand the devastation of Katrina, yet still enjoy some of the worlds greatest eating, museums, and entertainment, including casinos, the French Quater, the gulf coast beaches.etc etc..
Dont take my word for it,Buttercups was down here around April, and I think she will vouch for it also.
As an added plus, prices are at a premium right now due to the fact they are trying to get the tourism started back up.

If you do make it to N.O. then come a little farther west and see what is in Texas. It is about as diverse as anywhere. You can go from the country to a major metro area in a short time. There are many family type attractions located around the state.

If you want shows, lights, gambling, big city fun ... what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas ...
You might want to visit Las Vegas, NV ...
If you want Disney World, beaches, sunshine, and/or maybe a cruise ... try Florida ...
If you want the Mountains ... A theme Park ... try Gatlinburg, TN ... DollyWood (Dolly Pardon) ...
Also in Chattanooga, TN is See Rock City, and Ruby Falls (Ruby Falls is underground in a cave), and there is the Lost Sea witch is in a cavern also ...
Mardigrase is in New Orleans, LA is good ... bring lots of beads for the ladies ...
From Colorado to Washington state and lots of states in between have some very scenic driving ... Mountains, Valleys, Rivers, Deserts, Plains ... etc.
I will look for some pictures ... and give you some clue(s) ...
But if you are just wanting a "Road Map" let me know ... I might be able to help you out there also ...
I have some pics on my blog that I have taken over the 48 states ...

Here are some web pages you can visit for prices and etc. Thinking about it more ... unless you want the beach ... you would get the best of big city life and wide open spaces if you went to Las Vegas and took a tour of the Grand Canyon ...
Mardigrase is in New Orleans, LA is good ... bring lots of beads for the ladies ...
I.O. no offense but ,New Orleans is so much more than Mardi Gras, which is over and wont be back for about 1 year.and you dont "Bring"beads the krews, throw them to you.You have the U.S. World war II museum, the French Quarter (Vieux carre),with all of its' history, the Mississippi River with its'riverboat tours,or you can go on a swamp tour and safely come nose-to nose with a live alligator in its' own enviroment.Ride a street car down St. Charles ave,and visit Audubon park while you are there(John J.Audubon, the artist ,did his most famous works there),See where Tennesse Williams lived when he wrote "A strretcar named Desire",Go to Chalmette and visit the Battlefield of the "Battle of New Orleans" ,remember the Johnny Horton song?.---------and then on the second day.....

I'd have to agree with Mav - I do love New Orleans and there's so much history there and so much to see. Plus, if you do want to gamble there's a casino there as well.
I also really enjoy the Florida Keys.

First of all, I'm glad to have the response from all of you.One thing is sure I'm gonna visit Satchmo´s birthtown. And show my humble & respect to N.O. State of Texas, Arizona, California. Nevada, Colorado, Alabama , Georgia. Those states are top of my list. Next round I visit the states up north.Yes I know, you have so many states so it took me several years to visit them all.
But step by step, bit by bit. Who know's
Once again thanks for the response
All guidance are welcome.

Mavriktu .... No offense taken ... and I am sorry I miss spelled "Mardi Gras" ... I thought that you had mentioned New Orleans in your post ... and I did mention it again ... I personally have never been to Mardi Gras ... I only can give the account of what I have seen or heard ... I thought you did a find job telling him about your area ... I was just trying to give him some other info ... choices ... options ... that I knew about ...
I hope you did not take that I was putting New Orleans down ... SU and I went there and tried to help to rebuild the area after the Hurricanes did their damage ... I have pics of some of the areas we worked in on my blog ... http://www.truckingamerica.blogspot.com/ ... which I am sure you saw a lot more than I did ... but ... we were there to try to help for about 6 months ... just because we wanted to help out somehow ...
Later ...

IO no offense taken. It is just that it seems whenever N.O. is portrayed in movies etc.You MUST have a Mardi Gras parade (no matter what time of year) and a cheesy cajun accent,I have lived here for 54 years and the biggest cajun accent I ever heard was a family friend (Justin Wilson) and guess what?? IT WAS FAKE!!

Hi Wise .... I live in GA .... I can tell you there is a great deal to do around Atlanta ... but ... you will have to deal with the traffic ... Man ... it can be a pain ...
Anyway ... I like Stone Mountain ... It has a lot to offer ... I like walking through the Plantation area ... and I also love the lazier show at night ... of course ... I have a certificate for climbing the mountain ... when I was only 5 years old ... and they keep adding things all the time .... I have not been there in a while ... but I still remember the train ride around the mountain ... and the Indians that came on and put on a show ...
Then there is Underground Atlanta ... and the Olympic Park ... Coca Cola Factory ... and Six Flags ... and I believe there is an I max theater some where close now .... and much much more ... but ... a little further north ... in Helen, Ga. ... is a German town and it is cool also ... and there is the Unicoi State Park ...
Just a few more suggestions ...
I guess it will depend on the time of year you come to visit .... Helen is really beautiful in October for their October Fest ... when the leaves on the trees are changing ...
When ever you do visit ... where ever it may be ... Have a wonderful time .. and a safe trip ...

NATIVE New Orleanians actually have an (some call it YAT Speak http://www.gumbopages.com/yatspeak.html )accent Xtremely similar to those who are from the Bronx, NY.....CAJUN is English, French and maybe a little Native American and spoken by those SOUTH of the City that Care forgot (NO's name long before Katrina)
And Mardi Gras that most hear about and see from Rue Bourbon is mostly drunken tourists :)
New Orleans is/was/is going to be again a little piece of Europe in the US :)

I wish also to visit other counties of Louisana, far away of tourist trail.
